I am very grateful to you! I had not expected such thorough, thoughtful and constructive feedback. It's great. I'm particularly grateful for the possibilities you outlined in terms of moving the piece forward. Good things to think about. It was useful to have lines that seemed to work particularly well highlighted and I am delighted to have the names of authors you recommended. I didn't know a single one of them!

Honestly, I tend to approach writing workshops with skepticism. I attended Rosa's workshop with an open mind, however, and was delighted! The exercises were well-crafted and the sense of community helped me to write in a way that was surprising and invigorating. The pace of the workshop maintained momentum while still providing enough expansiveness to allow for the flow of creativity. It was definitely worth the time and effort.

I really enjoyed our chat about my poetry. The advice and guidance was so useful and helpful. I have had a look at the feedback and it's been really insightful and positive. I'm really pleased with my areas of strength in the poems that you referred to in your notes. I am so grateful for this and it has given me a real boost.

I signed up for these sessions hoping to find some motivation to carry on writing after finishing my Creative Writing degree. It was nice to get together every week and write in a more informal environment. Even though I’ve not submitted anything for feedback this time, I have been writing each week since the start of the sessions and I’ve found myself brainstorming ideas and thinking about stories and characters more than before. Now I not only feel motivated to carry on, but also lucky to have been able to be a part of this. I met some lovely, like-minded people and overall had an amazing time. Thank you so much Rosa for organising this, and for always being so helpful. I’d love it if we could carry on with the workshops.

It was the name that got me: Poetry etc. To me that name implied that the group’s focus wasn’t producing poetry-with-a-capital-‘P’ but just putting pen to paper, getting creative, and seeing what comes out. The name also underlines the relaxed atmosphere of the workshop, an openness to styles, ability levels, and ways of working. It’s easier to learn when you’re in an environment like that, and it’s easier to be creative in accepting company. I try to write something every day and when I get stuck, which is often, I go back to the techniques I learned at Poetry etc., and try to channel the warmth and positivity that I experienced there. It always helps. I’ll definitely be going back.

I came to the last session only, Rosa, and enjoyed it so much. The people you have gathered were great I thought - not always possible to achieve this in open groups! My only concern in continuing which I would very much like to do is that I am away a lot this autumn so I wouldn’t be able to commit to all sessions. So I would want you to know that if I’m not there it’s not because I’m not enjoying it! Thanks so much for setting it up.

Not being of a creative background or having any creative talent I felt quite anxious and apprehensive when I first attended poetry etc. However Rosa is quick to put everyone at ease and it is a warm and safe environment in which to explore your own thoughts and ideas whatever your level of ability. I realised from attending the sessions that my thoughts were buried deep inside me and simply needed to be brought to the surface. Many benefits particularly therapeutic can be gained from attending the sessions and the nights have helped to build and develop the growing creative community of Huddersfield. With the continuing cuts in arts funding that we now face, workshops like these are more important than ever.

Rosa is a great tutor. I completely adored the course and I think a big part of it was because she is so great.
